From then till now, steam sheds and various forms of steam traction came and went,
including the steam railcars which ran from Christchurch to Poole in competition with the trams. Meyrick Park Halt was serviced by
these during its short lifespan from 1906 to 1917. The end of steam was witnessed in 1967, with full electrification being used from
Waterloo to Poole, and eventually down to Weymouth. |
Improvements were seen in the control of the railways, one signal box after another being
replaced by a larger one elsewhere. Signalling, points and track have all been altered and upgraded over the years, the latest uprating of
signals and electric power for the Cross-Country and Desiro trains only just being completed in late 2007. |
